Course Objectives: Demonstrate knowledge of Windows operating system and basic file management techniques; Utilize word processing software to create and edit documents, outlines, and charts for business communication; Utilize spreadsheet software to create and edit formulas, functions, charts, and ‘what if’ analysis to solve business problems; Demonstrate the ability to use database software to create, design and use tables, forms, queries, and reports; Demonstrate Internet use and navigation; Demonstrate the ability to use presentation software to create, design, and exhibit presentations with enhanced features and web tools. Please answer the following questions based on the BUS 902 transfer course you currently teach or have taught in the past three years. The items included in parentheses are simply suggestions.
Does the title, Computer Applications and Business Systems Concepts, accurately reflect what you teach? What name would you prefer? (i.e. Computer Applications and Concepts) Does the course description accurately reflect what you teach? What should be modified? What software do you use to teach computer applications? (Office 365, Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus, Google Products, OpenOffice, etc.) What projects are required for the file management component?
Of your entire semester, how much time is devoted to file management concepts (i.e. none, 15 minutes, one hour, two weeks, etc.)? Is word processing taught in your course? Why? Why not? Are creating outlines and charts an essential component of your word processing lessons? What word processing topics are essential for students to know? (mail merging, setting tabs, creating citations, inserting images, creating columns) How much time is devoted to word processing concepts? What formulas, functions, and features of spreadsheets are important to solving business problems? (i.e. =SUM, =AVERAGE, summary worksheets, Sparklines, tables, specific financial functions or database functions) Of your entire semester, how much time is devoted to spreadsheet concepts? What database objects do you include in your course? (tables, queries, forms, reports What projects are required of students? Of your entire semester, how much time is devoted to database concepts?
