The panel had concerns about the level of detail being supplied in the topical outlines on course syllabi. The panel decided to add the following statement to the criteria document under "Common Reasons Courses are not Approved:" * If a topical outline within a syllabus does not provide the detail necessary for the panel to determine if all required topics are adequately covered, the course will not approved. The panel also discussed courses with labs under the Agriculture panel descriptors. As labs are not necessarily required but may be present in a number of the descriptors, the panel made some clarifications which were placed within the updated criteria document: Labs in Agriculture courses – Panel Expectations AG 901- Introduction to Agricultural Economics (3-4 semester credits)
AG 902 - Introduction to Animal Science (3-4 semester credits) Lab possible AG 903 - Introduction to Crop (or Plant) Science (4 semester credits) Lab possible AG 904 - Introduction to Soil Science (4 semester credits) Lab Possible AG 905 - Introduction to Horticulture (3 semester credits) Lab possible AG 906 - Introduction to Agricultural Mechanization (3-4 semester credits) Lab possible AG 907 - Introduction to Precision Agriculture (2-4 semester credits) - NEW COURSE! Lab Possible AG 911 - Introduction to Agriculture Education (2-3 semester credits) AG 912 - Introduction to Floral Design (3 semester credits) Lab possible AG 913 - Introductory Microcomputer Skills in Agriculture (3 semester credits) Lab possible For lab possible courses, the panel needs a detailed description of lab activities for each lab included in the course. It should also be clear the breakdown of contact hours for lecture and lab to meet the appropriate credit hours required for each and the course. If a lab is not possible, the course does not have to have a lab if it is not designed as such at the institution. Krista updated the criteria document. She sent it to the panel and posted it to the site. If there are any corrections needed, Krista will make those corrections and repost them to the site. In addition to these clarifications, the panel discussed supplying a sample syllabus for examples for members and institutions. Krista will look for some examples and pull these together to share with the panel for a sample syllabus that can be shared on the website. b) Outstanding / ongoing topics from previous panel meeting(s) c) Updates d) Other discussion items from panel members e) Next meeting(s): i) Fall '23 = Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, at 10:00 to 2:30 pm, via Zoom and TBD ii) 2024 Meetings will be set in fall of 2023 _____________________________________ Panel Approval Ratio Panel: [Major] Agriculture Panel Semester Fall 2022 _____________________________________ Ongoing Courses = 21 New Courses = 3 Total Courses = 24 _____________________________________ Approved Ratio = 91.67% Conditional Approved Ratio = 0.00% Approved & Conditional Ratio = 91.67% Non-Approved Ratio = 8.33% Total Ratio = 100.00% _____________________________________ |
