An introductory exploration of the relationships between dramatic text and the play in performance. Representative plays are studied in their genre, historical and social contexts. An emphasis is placed on basic structural terminology and methodology.
At the end of this course, students will be able to: - Analyze a play (or plays) for production - Identify the nature and structure of dramatic forms - Understand dramatic forms and identify the characteristics of major theatrical styles. - Demonstrate an understanding of literary and dramatic terminology
