COURSE RETIRED as of 05/1/2016: An introduction to the use of software for design of mechanical components. Sketching, lettering, orthographic projections, descriptive geometry, point, line, basic geometric shapes will be covered. The student will demonstrate the use of menus, layers, fonts, and weights. Basic dimensioning, tolerancing, and pictorial drawings will be covered. Upon successful completion of this course, the student is expected to be able to: • utilize one popular CAD software • create various entities like lines, circles, and text • Provide dimensions needed to convey length and feature characteristics • produce parts drawings in 2-d • Understand the layout process of a drawing • produce a 3-view drawing • develop orthographic views • read and interpret mechanical drawings.
